Data Entry and Typing Jobs

December 12, 2009 – 10:53 am

I have been looking up jobs on the internet for hours and my head is spinning. I can honestly say that 99.9% of the time no matter how good it looks it is a scam. It seems finding a job whether it be data entry or typing that the ads are work from home and if it says typing it is really data entry from home.

There are legitimate jobs though they are just hard to find. I was looking and there were people trying to find data entry or typing jobs since the early 2000’s

Monster, Yahoo! Hot Jobs, Craigslist and CareerBuilder are the more popular job sites or job boards, however even they have fraudulent job listings.

How do we know when we are job searching what to do to find a job that is not a fraud.

In this article we are going to look at job listings and what to look for.

Only reply to companies that provide viable information about their company. One of the reasons for this is if for instance they have a website listed or even an email address of a contact (you can find their website) you can see if their company actually is the kind of company that matches the job listing that you are interested in. Even after you have found a listing and a company you are interested in you need to do research on that company to find out if the work environment is good, if you want to work from home do they provide that, and what other perks and bonuses they have.

A job listing that has only one sentence and then says call us might be a no no. Most corporations either hire from an internal recruiter or hire an external recruiter to hire for a position that is important to them. If it is really important to a company to hire the right candidate they will make sure you know the job requirements. Along with this I have found many listings that the company wants you to pay them to learn their system. It is best just to skip all of these listings and save your time.

People working for legitimate companies that are recruiting will have an email address from the company. I would not answer postings for jobs listed by a person with a MSN, Yahoo Mail, or Gmail address as they may be scams. But not to say that people do have those kinds of email addresses. I do for personal use. Many of the listing with those email addresses are from people outside of the country and are doing some kind of a scam. A tell tale is if they send a generic email asking for very personal information that you should not be giving in an email anyways. Again just skip these listings.

I can go on and on and will in other articles.

Is Work From Home a scam?

December 11, 2009 – 12:10 pm

I have done some research on the internet and found that while there probably are some real Data Entry jobs, they are really hard to find. I would say that a majority of the data entry sites that you find online are a scam of some sort.

The one I find the most is they want you to pay them 99 dollars up front and then they teach you their system that will make you hundreds or even thousands per week. I do not know about you but I would never pay to type.

There is a lot more legitimate work from home or data entry jobs than real ones. When studying the listings I would assume that the jobs listed are scams until I researched them and found reasons that the listings are real. Like researching the company maybe calling and talking to people there and so forth.

Here are some ideas on avoiding scams that I would follow closely and you have probably heard before.

  • Find out how the job pays. Is it a salary job? Does it pay on commission?  Is it a contract job?
  • Get Rich Schemes are usually a scam. They promise that you will earn a lot of money fast and easy but that usually never happens. They will always have testimonials too of people that followed there courses and got rich. Usually you have to pay for they schemes too up front.
  • As I have said before and many times, there are companies that ask for money up front to buy their start up kit or course. Legitimate companies will not charge you up front.
  • Calling the company and talking to some people there and seeing if the job has worked out for them. If there is now way to contact anyone then you know.
  • And never look at or open email that you do not know who it came from “Junk mail” or “Spam”. It might be from a company that says they want to hire you and asks you to fill out a form or asks questions. Believe me though it out. It is so easy to get caught up in this kind of scam.

If you are employed now and want to work from home, talk to your boss and see if he/she is willing to work out part time at home or even full time. Remember it is an advantage for the employer to let you work from home your employer might not be aware of them. (I will go into the advantages to the employer in another article.)

Is there legitimate data entry work?

December 11, 2009 – 8:46 am

Yes there are some legitimate data entry jobs, and even some that you can work from home. They are few and far between though. There may be data entry work however, but there are many scams out there and it might take a lot of time weeding through it. There is a lot of interest in working from home. I know I worked from home for a while for one company that I worked for in the past. The fact is it is better for the company to have employees work from home; however they have a hard time getting past old ways. The bosses want to see their employees at work.

I guess what I am saying is even if there are real jobs out there, they are hard to find.

Most people that are looking for work from home spend a lot of time searching job listings and doing searches on the internet. You might join a job social network. Remember again there are many scams.

I am not sure if it is a scam but many companies on the internet want you to pay for training and then get some work before you get a lot of work. I for one would never pay for a job. Recruiters get paid from the companies they find people to work for. It sounds to me like they are getting money from both ends.

In my personal experience working from home, I broke a leg and had to stay at home. My employer did not want me to lose work and frankly I did not either. I had almost everything I needed to work from home already so it was easy for me. Other people work some time from home and some from the office. It all depends on the employer; they are in no way responsible to accommodate an employee unless stated in a contract.

Finally let’s face it most data entry jobs are now either work at home or outsourced to another country such as India. Yes I did some simple searches for “data entry work” and in the top four results, two were work in India. I looked at them quick and found that they want college grads working for them and that they do a pretty good job. Searching in the search engines and job sites like Monster and Hot jobs is going to come up with 100s or even 1000s of listings of which most of them are going to be a scam. Remember if they ask for money from you up front they are a scam.
